Understanding AISH & ADAP

Understanding AISH & ADAP is a practical, plain‑language course for people with disabilities, caregivers, and support workers navigating Alberta’s disability income system during the 2026 transition. Participants learn the core differences between AISH and ADAP, including eligibility, benefit levels, health coverage, income exemptions, and asset rules. The course also provides a clear, step‑by‑step overview of the shared application process, with guidance on working with medical providers to complete strong medical reports that accurately reflect functional limitations.

Participants also learn what happens after applying, including adjudication, appeals, and key changes taking effect after July 1, 2026. The course offers practical strategies for interacting with AISH/ADAP, reporting income, understanding the Disability Tax Credit and Canada Disability Benefit, and managing limited budgets through real‑life examples. Throughout, the focus is on building confidence, supporting informed self‑advocacy, and connecting participants to peer and community supports.
